Summary: During Prohibition, Charles S. Stansbery (1894-1957), married to Mayme Osborne Stansbery, consumed in Bristol, Tennessee as did tens of thousands of others some highly alcoholic, oil polluted Jamaica ginger sold over the counter. The effects were devastating to Charles and many others. His left leg was paralyzed and he limped badly the rest of his life. The event also led to the dissolving of his marriage.
